50系客車は1977年、国鉄が主に地方都市圏の通勤・通学用に設計・製造した一般形客車で、その鮮やかな赤い塗装から『レッドトレイン』の愛称がつけられました。
全国各地で運用されましたが、次第に活躍の場を失い、2001年には赤い車体の一般仕様車の運用は終了しました。
2000番代は東北や北陸といった冬の寒さが厳しい地域向けに、電気暖房を装備した車両になります。最小走行半径はR95と大変コンパクトです。

【Product features and usage, etc.】
The Series 50 passenger car was designed and manufactured by JNR in 1977 for commuting to work and school in local urban areas and was nicknamed the "Red Train" due to its bright red color.
Although it was operated all over the country, it gradually lost its place of activity, and in 2001, the operation of the general specification car with a red body ended.
The 2000s will be cars equipped with electric heating for regions with severe winter colds, such as Tohoku and Hokuriku. The minimum running radius is very compact, with R95.
