【商品の特徴や使い方等】
DD51形ディーゼル機関車は、幹線の無煙化推進を目的として、国鉄が1962(昭和37)年から1978(昭和53)年にかけて製造したディーゼル機関車です。
モデルとなった車両は後藤総合車両所に所属する1179号機と1186号機です。
かつては寝台特急「出雲」や「トワイライトエクスプレス」などの牽引機として活躍しましたが、現在は臨時列車の牽引や入替作業に従事しています。
また1186号機は1994年の兵庫県植樹祭、1994年と2003年、2011年の全国豊かな海づくり大会の際、お召し列車牽引においてDD51重連の先頭を担い、このうち2011年の運転では1179号機を僚機としていました。
最小走行半径はR95と大変コンパクトです。

【Product features and usage, etc.】
The DD51 diesel locomotive was manufactured by the Japanese National Railways from 1962 (Showa 37) to 1978 (Showa 53) to promote the main line's smokelessness.
The model cars are Units 1179 and 1186, belonging to Goto General Train Office.
It used to be a traction machine for the sleeper limited express "Izumo" and "Twilight Express," but now it is engaged in traction and replacement work for temporary trains.
In addition, Unit 1186 was the leader of the DD51 double heading in royal train towing during the 1994 Hyogo Prefectural Tree-Planting Festival, 1994, 2003, and 2011 national affluent sea-building competitions. Unit 1179 was a consort machine.
The minimum mileage is R95, which is very compact.
